MGI classification scheme for informational and educational resources in the field of International Relations

On commission from the Moscow Institute for International Relations (MGIMO), the Interdisciplinary Centre for Studies in History, Economy and Society projected and elaborated a universal classification and cataloguing system for informational and educational resources in the field of international relations.

MGI (Mnemonics Generated Index) is a classification scheme consisting of a basic glossary of keywords (mnemonic descriptors) which can be combined at different levels to produce multi-layered identification strings for informational resources with a great level of detail. MGI is a versatile technology for generating, classifying and distributing knowledge. It combines discipline-specific semantic tools and instruments of data visualisation with a classification system for educational resources, online communication and co-ordination tools for scientific and educational activity, and a set of powerful tools for the search and retrieval of relevant informational resources.

Work on the project involved classification and cataloguing of resources in the field of International Relations, analysis and assessment of the scientific and educational activities carried out at MGIMO, elaborating training methods for MGI-coding, and assisting in the implementation of MGI-technology as the organising principle in the management of the scientific and educational activities at MGIMO.

For further information on the MGI classification system see the project website (in Russian).
